Just bought this old girl, with 112K miles on it. Engine and transmission are strong, everything works...except the steering.
Terrible oversteer, with slack in the steering wheel between 10 and 2. Most of the usual suspects have been replaced, like idler arms, center link, ball joints, tie rod ends and drag link were replaced 12K miles ago.
When turning the steering wheel through the range of it's "slack", the steering shaft turns within the steering box but there is no rotating of the pitman arm, and when the arm does move, there is some side to side movement within the bore of the steering box.
I intend to replace the steering box and coupler, and possibly add a steering stabilizer if needed.
I have heard that the alignment for the Roadtrek on this Dodge is different than for the B350 without the RV package. Mostly differences in camber. Has anyone heard of this?
I'm really looking forward to traveling in this. My hope is that I can make the steering solid enough so my wife can drive. She used to drive a 14 passenger bus, but the oversteer is scary. It wanders to the right, and when you correct for that it oversteers to the left, and then you correct for that...and it looks like I'm driving drunk! And that's not a good look!
Glad to be here,
