    Question Hybrid Pure Sine Invertors

...to the Invertor. Not wiring the Cook Top into the invertor, of course, make perfect sense:) In the last rig we did wire in the front AC to the invertor with the addition of a Soft Start. Not having the cooktop wired in to the invertor circuits will really put a crimp in the boondocking...

    New and interested in everything!

Welcome to RVF, @Williams&Williams; glad to have you here with us. Soft-start will reduce your AC starting amperage by about 70%. A single 15K BTU AC can draw up to about 50A on startup; with SS, that will be reduced to about 15A. The unit will draw 13-14A when running (after start). If you...

    Easy start

When an electric motor (such as one driving an AC compressor) starts, it initially draws a heavy electrical current in order to get things moving. A "soft-start" circuit simply manages the initial starting current of the motor in a way that eliminates the initial high current load. We don't...

    Soft floor

The one in the kitchen is about 10 inches from a wall at end of island opposite end from sink and the upstairs is between bathroom and outer wall. I guess my next step will be to disconnect the under belly and start feeling around. Thanks for the response.

Can you run a onboard generator with an external generator!

Thanks all for the good information. Not the answer I was looking for, but what I thought would be correct. I didn't think running both was an option, but had to ask. Anyway, ill look into the soft start and just run one at a time for now. Thanks again and happy Camping!!

Properly turning off your Dometic RV Roof Air Conditioners

Thanks for the tip Neal. I would assume this would be good practice for the other modes as well. Can’t hurt! BTW, we seldom boondock and have no added solar. Do you feel that adding soft start to my units would be beneficial and/or worth the effort and expense?

Dometic Penguin II impossible to find

...parts (2 dongle/adapters) and the Freshjet 5 HP: The new unit has the new control box installed already. You have to still add a soft start if on inverters or transfer it over. New control box is not plug and play with old newmar (2019) Penguin adapter plug (DC, furnace, shed etc) but it...

    Huge decline in RV shipments

The interest rates, coupled with the increase in campground fees and fuel costs will definitely continue to create a pinch on demand. On the other thread about campgrounds changing, once campgrounds start investing capital into the “needed” upgrades, assuming they use leverage, their fees will...

FYI Solar 101 - A General Guide to Solar in your RV or Motorhome

I need some help on one thing. I put soft start on my ac unit but when I try to power it off the batteries I get E7 on my ac control . It goes off real quick then the hour glass comes back on and when it is finished it timing the E7 comes back and so on.

    Easy start

Ok... So for my first post I'm gonna just jump right In and show my naivety. What is a soft start and why is it necessary. I bought a Predator 3500 inverter sen specifically to run the AC) in addition to the lights and fridge) in the event it was needed if/when I ever boondock. Now I'm...

    Bees nests

RV been sitting this summer, so I was checking both roof AC units. Front one was fine, but rear unit wouldn’t start—only hummed. Last summer I had replaced the caps and installed a soft-start cap, and it was running fine. So up on the roof I went to investigate, thinking maybe a new cap failed...

    #1 AC died again.

We just had the compressor seize up on the center (kitchen AC). Replacement units (15M) run about $1,700…if you can find one. We are being quoted 6-8 weeks by both a local distributor and Dometic itself. Like everything else, the supply chain is all messed up. Our coach is exactly 3 years...

Preferred generator set up for 5th wheels

I’ve got a loud 3500 watt generator that has a 30 amp RV outlet. It won’t run both AC units without a soft start module installed on them, but it will run one of them. As far as the noise, I found you can divert the sound and make it substantially quieter. It won’t ever be as quiet as a Honda...

Can you run a onboard generator with an external generator!

...were the case, right? Let me ask, did you add the second air conditioner yourself? Also, there is a good possibility that putting a "soft start" device on the air conditioners will avoid the "surge" necessary to fire them both up. I've seen this work for lots of people who want to run two...

Properly turning off your Dometic RV Roof Air Conditioners

To keep it in easy-to-understand language, soft-start eases your ACs (or other high-amperage equipment) into the starting cycle rather than having the full draw hit all at once. In a sense, you can think of it this way: if you want to pull something heavy with a pickup truck and a chain, you...

    Micro-air Easystart/Bluetooth

Do you need the MicroAir thermostat to add their softstart circuitry? I assumed the softstart can be used with any thermostat? ie: call for Cool, triggers the softstart circuit that then fires up the compressor.... I haven't done too much research like I know you have on softstart....If you...

    Generator

...People are all over the place on generators; especially the more inexpensive ones. I'm sure the Westinghouse is fine, but it's not a Honda. If price is an issue, lots of people use those Horrible Freight gennies, and love them. The Honda starts our AC no problem, and we don't have a soft start.

    Tying invertor to AC circuit

We run our generator to utilize the roof mount AC when needed. We close the doors between the front living area and the bathroom as well as the doors between the bathroom and the bedroom. We do this whenever we travel whether or not we are using the house AC. This is a huge help to control...
