    Campground Closures & Social Distancing

Couple years ago, my wife and I stayed at a former KOA. The folks were sick of the squeeze between KOA & trying to make a living. Seems franchise fees, keeping up 'the look' & honoring corporate discounts cut their profits to the point that they felt like wage slaves. They got off the treadmill...

    Living Space in a RV

If selling = buying an airplane, then those folks are not concerned with labor costs. I guess they wanted to get someplace quicker! I'm hoping for a 'clean' report on my mold test results so I can get back to remodeling my 'cracker box'.

    Living Space in a RV

FYI- Sq. Footage would be hard to compare because of slide-outs. Most RVs are just measured from front to back and then by layout & how many they will sleep. IMHO - My wife & I have been full-time in a 30' Class A pulling a Honda Accord on a tow dolly since 12/16. If I could get a 'do over'...

Remodeling my Class A because of Mold Issues

We are now waiting on the Lab results for the last mold test. It's not like we could be going anywhere, but I don't want to put $ into the RV if it flunks the mold test. If it flunks, I will build a car hauler conversion with all the stuff I had previously upgraded the Class A with. Bigger AC...

Will we see a new surge of RV 1st timers?

Probably folks that have lost homes or apartments will downsize into RVs to avoid being homeless. Then as they travel looking for work, they will hopefully realize that they have not failed. The System failed them, the Dream was an illusion, and that our Worth is not the Sum of the Crap we...

    Campground Closures & Social Distancing

So with Covid-19 a new term (to me anyway) has popped up called social distancing. Well, we are full-time and campgrounds are mostly what's available on the east coast. We have National, State, COE parks available through RA app on the phone, but those are only 2 weeks and you have to make them...

    Healthcare

Glad that is working for you, my supplement insurance is HMO/PPO and through United. Fine print reveals all. These plans have 'networks' of providers who have agreed to do some procedures for a specific price. The balance is on you & if you are 'out of network', there is no 'agreed on price'...

    Healthcare

We are full-time also, I'm on medicare + UHC & my wife is on state insurance. After talking with my agent on this, all insurance supplements sux. For in network coverage, you have to physically be in the network. Out of network (which is me 10 months out of the year), I have to go on "Passport"...

    Extras. What do i need?

You will need some apps for your phone. I have Verizon Unlimited talk, text, data and use my phone as a hotspot. It works nation wide. The apps are Passport America, Park Adviser, Reserve America (for State and National Parks, Corps of Engineers, BLM, etc.), & KOA. Be prepared for your plans to...

    Completely new to this.

Greetings! Welcome aboard! RVing is lots of fun if you like sleeping in your own bed, not having to pack for trips, and being able to get away from crazy neighbors before the cops show up! Now find a gently used RV, load some apps and hit the road - it's a big world out there!

    Tip Kwikee Step Failed

I am glad you were able to fix this without having to swap the steps out. That is what I had to do. I got them off Amazon and it was an easy swap out. The door switch had to be swapped also (steps out with door closed, steps in with door open!). Repairs on the road are fun, right?

    Sold House, Full-Timing Now

Greetings! And congrats on dropping those anchors that keep us bound to the dirt! My wife & I have been full-time for 3 years and it has been an adventure! Only advice I have is to be flexible because the best plans can jump in the toilet! It is part of the nomadic life! Great to have you and...

    FYI Speedtest and ExpressVPN

DW & I use Freedome VPN for 3 years now. Protects 3 devices (2 phones and her laptop) & seems to do good job. Haven't done a speed test but with Verizon Hotspots on the phones we stay connected. We have found most campgrounds claim to have WiFi but it is usually at the office and weak at the...

    Campground Pet Peeves

You're right, TJ. I just need to pay more attention. Just gets tricky when I forget where I'm at (and when I need to leave!). Happy Trails!

    Campground Pet Peeves

Confirmation emails are great. I should check them closer. So, really it is my fault, not the stoned staff at the CG that screws up the reservation in the first place. Maybe if they didn't Bogart that...

    Good Morning RV'ers!

Has rained all day in NC. Flash flood warning and tornado watch close by, but we are house sitting during this remodel and are on high ground. No problems!

    Campground Pet Peeves

Being full-time, my biggest complaint would be the difference between arrival/leave and first night/ last night on reservations. In 3 years travel, I can't count how many times there has been a screw up on reservations and we were expected to leave because our site was booked for that last...

    Good Sam or other memberships?

GS can save a little & PA will you some but Reserve America saves you more. That is the hookup to the National Parks, State Parks, BLM, Army Corps of Engineers etc, etc. We actually use Park Advisor for more campground information since we are mostly East Coast migrants. We just ask about...

    Thrifty Campers?

My wife bought a 12" cast iron fry pan for $10 at a thrift store. We 'gave away' all of our cast iron cooking items at the living estate auction when we downsized to go full-time. Big mistake! We found non-stick fry pans last about 1 & 1/2 years when used daily, our old cast iron lasted 35-40...
