I am a newbie to RVing and was wondering if I am running on DC power will my outlets convert to 110? Or do I need to purchase things that run off 12v?

If you have an inverter they will. Plug a hair dryer or portable light into the 110 socket and check it out.

Unless there is an INVERTER on your RV, and a switching means, your outlets only work when connected to 120 volt AC "shore" power. An INVERTER converts 12 volts DC to 120 volts AC.

As others have said, probably not, although some motorhomes and trailers have some receptacles that will be powered thru an inverter. For example, our T@B has two plugs powered by a 1200 watt inverter.

Maybe tell us about your RV a little. Make, model etc.

Cheers.

I purchased a 2022 Keystone Springdale Mini, 22 ft. It has a solar panel on the roof. I do not know the wattage. I know the receptacles say solar power. I haven't tried plugging anything into it yet. Also, if hooked up to shore power I have read to disconnect from the 12v, but I don't see anything in the TT to do so.. I am new to RVing so not sure about a lot of things electrical.

Good morning. The solar panel jyst charges the battery. It won’t provide 120 volts to any plugs.

Enjoy the camping season.

Technically I can visualize the system when connected to shore power the batteries are charged from the CONVERTER and the outlets are supplied with 120 VAC. When disconnected from shore power, the system reverts to battery power, charged by the solar panel, and the system switches to an INVERTER to supply 120 VAC to the outlets.

As an electronic systems engineer, it would be quite easy to design and install such a system. Not very expensive either. But for others, of non-technical discipline, it would be a challenge to design, install and operate. Actually, If I designed it, the system would be totally automatic requiring no intervention by the user. As it should be.

As to why companies make systems so complex, with switch this on and switch that off and such, it is a mystery to me.

For the life of me, I don't understand why RV companies do not provide monitoring of the AC voltage/current system and likewise of the DC voltage/current system. Mine costs me less than $25.

Depends on what you own, some rv's do and some don,t. Ck with a repair facility............
