Aside from touring the country, a secondary mission I have is scouting out locations to move to from VA. We have spent the last week in Texas hill country and are liking it. A lot.

Why shouldn’t we live here? What are we not seeing that should be red flags?

We're originally from MD and spent a fair amount of time "shopping" for a winter location that suited us. We, also, ended up in TX, but we decided we wanted to be coastal and a bit warmer than the Hill Country.

Been there, enjoyed it. DW almost bought a concealed carry purse (not!). No matter where we visit we realize that we are coastal temperate area people. That’s why we love the SF Bay Area.

The Texas Hill country is pure God’s country. “docj” is right about the winters. Rarely ice more than a day or two but Texans can’t drive in ice. My choice would be somewhere around Fredericksburg and Killeen.

We are in Kerrville. Spent today in Fredericksburg. 74 deg. Mid Feb. Awesome.

Good thing you weren’t there a year ago!

Born and raised in Houston. Left as soon as I could. Will never return.

They’re right though. Texas Hill Country is absolutely gorgeous. Like Sedona, AZ - hard to fathom the beauty until you’re there and no picture, postcard or video can do it justice. It’s a sight to behold.

Unfortunately, I need to be near the water and I’m not much for lakes and prefer the beach - the Texas gulf coast is mostly atrocious in my opinion, though there are a few nicer spots. It will never compare to gulf shores Alabama or Florida, or anything on the eastern or western shores though.

I suspect the weather can be rather roller coaster-y. Overnight low tomorrow in the low 20s.

I put a quick disconnect on the water hose when we were there a few days ago for that, burr, reason.
