I don't know about "anyone," but we sure haven't. We've left our awning out when it is raining many times with no bad effects. Now, I don't like to bring mine in when it is wet unless I'll have the time to extend it again and let it dry. Rolling up a wet awning and leaving it that way for an extended time period invites mold.

Tilt one end, so rain runs off.

Usually we put our awning in. Frequently we see wind gusts with rain storms, so we don’t take chances by leaving the awning out.

But I see others leave their awnings out.

In the past month for a rain storm we pulled our awning in like usual and a few hours later (after the rain) we heard 2 campground neighbors ripping their remaining awning off and working to remove the bent arms from the wall anchors.

Another point - rain or not - if I will be away from the coach for an extended period, even several hours, I put the awning in. I don't want to return to any surprises. Water off at pole and awning in.

Yes I do all that too. Was camping a few weeks ago in new camper. This camper has the automatic rain dump gas struts. Therefor automatically dumping any rain that pools. I was inside cooking when it fell. Like I said before it was just a shower, there was no wind no thunder no lightning. I believe it was a faulty strut

Did it bounce back? Remember water is heavy.

Generally speaking if we are going to be gone for more than a couple hours we put our awnings in and shut the water off. If there is even a 20% to 30% chance of rain during the night we usually take it in.
