The top part of the back flow preventer valve broke off. Is that a problem?

I believe the top piece serves as a cover to prevent debris (and critters) from entering the system via the vent on the vacuum breaker. Since it is a relatively inexpensive part, I would replace it. I think this is an exact replacement.
