Bathroom is always hot during the summer and I was considering swapping out the clear skylight with an opaque one thinking it will cut down on the sun streaming in. Anyone have experience with this?

When we replaced our skylight we installed a smoked one. There was still more sun-loading than I wanted so I purchased a piece of smoked plexiglass and installed it under the skylight, sort of like a double-pane window. I sealed it well so there has been no moisture in between the skylight and my "inner pane". The combination of two piece of smoked plexiglass results in far less sun inside the shower area.

On my previos rig, I painted the skylight white. Several coatings. This significantly reduced the heat entering through it. When I got RV Armor, I had them comp;etely cover the skylight. It is totally opaque. When it gets really hot, I velcro a piece of reflectix across the bottom of the skylight opening.

Great input, thx!

I had considered this but didn't think the paint would adhere or last very long. Did you do anything special before painting? Special paint? Thx

Scuff the plexiglass with 240 grit sand paper then wipe with a paper towel and mineral spirits to remove any oily residue. Let dry then paint with a few light coats of white paint.

I used plastic paint from Home Depot, I think. I have also used Rustoleum Paint + Primer. Just make sure the surface is clean, and free of wax.
