Hi all,

My lead acid batteries are nearing 5 years and have thought about replacing them as they have gotten older, but mostly I just want to get rid of the task of water checks and especially corrosion. I would like to close up that space, repaint it all and put in Lithium’s. Should be good for 10-15 years and save at least 200 lbs of weight.

I could also go AGMs, although long term, the lithium’s would be a better deal. Maybe buy the AGMs and wait for the Lithiums to drop further (no guarantee) .

Anyway, Battleborn has their non heated GC2 replacements on sale for $859. Pretty tempting.

Thoughts?

In the same boat, probably my winter project. Following….

My only concern with lithium’s is the BIRD or whatever the charging issues are that @Chuggs knows about from @CoreyinWP I believe.

And although I have 8 GC2s today, and 6 lithium’s would provide more AH’s then what I have, the temptation to go for 8 is also there….

BTW, the lithium BIM is also on sale. $172.

It’s good to see some coach and trailer manufacturers making LIFO an option now. This hopefully means they are also installing the required hardware for LIFO in terms of charging components, heating and safety.

Does Newmar do this yet?

Oh. And thanks for the heads up on the price.

Not sure how much change of hardware is needed. Besides a new BIM and changing some settings on the charger/inverter, what else would there be to change?

I figure I would close up and insulate the battery compartment. And maybe a small 12 volt heater in the rare case I am in a cold environment.

I suggest measuring them to ensure the size of what you are buying x 8 will fit.

Yah. I guess that’s what I’m reffering to. We are in the process of getting a little teardrop trailer to pull behind the SUV to get us into some smaller more remote places. Initially we had difficulty finding anything that wouldn’t need a converter upgrade to being compatible with LIPO although the one we did find is lithium ready. I’m probably just behind the times a bit on what’s required. By the time we get a little pusher again I’m sure it will all be lithium. Heck, maybe by then the whole drivetrain will be a Tesla drivetrain. LOL. (Not holding my breath.:).

Cheers.

Hi Neal, I agree. There is a model that fits where the GC2 lead acid batteries current fit.

I'll drive down and we'll do both together! :) Hmmm, interesting thought...

Sounds like a plan! :)
