Excellent point on keeping the valves closed, @JoeHogan.As stated above, chlorine is a good solution (pun intended ) Also, we do not leave either gate valves open during our stay at any campground to avoid any migration of critters to the tanks. Only dump when necessary. Not saying this is your issue just my $0.02.
Thanks so much for the info we coasties are newbies at thisWelcome to RVF, @Coastiespouse; glad to have you here. Is the "Coasties" a reference to the USCG? If so, your service is very much appreciated.
As for your "bugs" problem, a chlorine bleach solution should not harm anything in the black tank. I would try another rinsing and dumping of the black tank, then adding a cup of bleach and refilling with fresh water (a hose into the toilet would simplify doing that). Let it stand 3-4 hours and then dump and rinse/dump again. You might have to repeat this treatment a couple of times a few days apart until you break the breeding cycle as the bugs may also have gotten into your vent pipe. I would also check your plumbing vents to be sure they have some kind of bug screen.

Thanks for the infoBugs, hum. Storing grain or rice A piece of dry ice in the bucket kills the bugs (no oxy). Cap the roof vent and put some dry ice in tank with mostly water. please not enough to freeze the water.
