We will be in Gulf Shores, AL and will be heading north along the East Coast to visit Civil War sites as far as Gettysburg and other points of interest. We are looking for a route that will let us see some important sites, without getting too far off a direct route due to fuel prices, etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Richard, your route of travel could help identify options for you. For instance, if coming up 95 Petersburg battlefield is readily available. If traveling up 81, Manassas and Antietam Battlefields would be in range. Once in Pa, don't forget to check out the Civil War museum in Harrisburg PA as well.
