On occasion it can get cold in the coach during a trip. Is is safe or unsafe to run the diesel heating unit in the coach while driving and without use of the generator (using battery power)? A/C is not a problem since using the generator but use of the heating unit involves an "open flame". Input appreciated!

Since it is an enclosed flame (in a chamber) it should be fine. We have done it before.

If running the generator you can also run the heat pump.

Perfectly fine. You does not say what model and year coach you have, but if it's newer and is the Oasis system then it runs on 12 volts including the interior blower motors.

No issues. I'm sure the fuel stations would appreciate you shutting it off though while re-fueling;)

When BURNER is on, the OASIS unit may not even ignite as the fluid is heated by the engine. So YES, you can turn BURNER on and also FURNACE on and set your desired temp. This is common for me in the winter travel as well. Obviously do not use HEAT PUMP as that requires 120V (GEN).

We have used the furnace when traveling in cold weather without turning the burner on. The engine will provide the heat necessary. Just might have to wait until engine warms up and heats the Oasis for the furnace to function.

We are able to do this, they key is to flip the switch on the Oasis for “engine preheat”, this turns on the pump to circulate the engine coolant loop to/from the oasis.

When parked, this allows the Oasis to preheat the engine (when using the burner).

When driving, this allows engine heat to keep the Oasis warm, hot water and/or furnace.

Engine heat is wonderful. We got to florida and parked, I turned on the hydro hot to get quick hot water and it wouldn't fire. I was worried for a minute. WAIT I told myself, it's not firing because the water's already hot.
