We have a 2007 Itasca Cambria 29h using a 2006 Ford E450 cutaway chassis.
It has a #5T110W Torqshift five speed transmission in which I am planning to change the filter and replace the fluid with Mercon LV.
I’ve read that there was a running change in 2008 that used an improved filter and updated pan.

My Ford dealer seemed kinda confused so I’ll toss my questions out here…
  1. Is it a good idea to do this upgrade to my 2006? Any problems with doing it?
  2. Do you know the correct part number for the pan, filter, and gasket?
  3. Should I also replace the external “toilet paper” filter or leave that housing empty? Does double filtering cause restricted flow of the LV fluid?
  4. Any other suggestions for the maintenance of this transmission?

Thanks for your wisdom!!

In my totally uneducated recommendation, I'd go to an independent transmission shop and ask your questions. They are usually far more educated and have no allegiance toward Ford.
IMHO, stick with 2006 parts and configuration.

The newer pan is deeper and the newer filter thicker. I personally see no benefit to swapping to them and wouldn't.
I always change the inline filters also during a service. You can upgrade that filter from the "solid" style paper original to a more traditional styled pleated filter while doing so if you like, it's optional. The pleated one costs like $16 versus the original style one's $6.

Thanks guys.
I do hesitate to screw around with things that were engineered a certain way intentionally.
Probably best to stay with the original stock stuff.
I was not aware of the pleated filter so I certainly seek that out.

Thanks guys!
