Just a thought: fir those of you who don’t have a front license plate, and carry a bicycle, motorcycle, or pull a toad, such that your plates not visible, how do you get charged via electronic tolls?

I have not been charged. Being from Alberta we only use one plate. I have a step ladder on the motorhome that partly covers the license plate and have bicycles on the towed that do not impair the view. We recently traveled along the east coast starting from Calais Maine hitting every state including Florida. We did use I 95 quite a bit. Coming out of New Jersey to Philly was the only section that we had to stop at a booth. (The cost was also almost $60.00! We were charged by the number of axles on the road.) We were told at the outset that our plate would be recorded and that we would be sent a bill for the electronic sections we used We left Florida Jan 01 and headed to Colorado through Texas and have yet to see a bill. Not even for Denver's electronic sections. I have come to the conclusion that it probably isn't worth the time and effort for anyone to track my Alberta plate.

we've always used transponders

I have a WV state transponder that stays in the van (pretty much the only vehicle we take north anymore). It's a flat annual fee of $26.XX and hitting all three booths north then south bound is $24 I think so one trip up basically covers the fee for unlimited travel per year. You're supposed to have a transponder and corresponding annual fee for each particular vehicle but I've taken my truck with the same transponder on two different occasions, once pulling a single axle utility trailer and once without. The without trip charged nothing different, all covered. Pulling the trailer, there was a minor additional fee of something under $2 per toll booth empty or loaded.

The whole concept is horribly outdated adding huge infrastructure costs, more labor, traffic backups, increased fuel consumption, lower productivity and truly massive emissions penalties. We deserve what we tolerate and no one is doing anything about it!

Familiar with transponders. Refuse to get one. Was just curious. I have front and back, but I see many places that do not.

You don't . I don't think ?

It has picked up the plate on our toad in the past. In FL I use a transponder and move to the car when we get to our destination. It also works in GA I think. Never used Peach Pass. The transponder is easy. We went through a toll in Indiana last year but never received a bill.

John&Andrea, you may want to check on line for Indiana. We did not received a bill in Illinois but DW checked their web site and it showed we owed the toll plus a penalty.

Thanks. We will check.

Where do you check online to see you owe tolls?
