We are Jon and Shelli. This is our first RV and looking forward to learning from the veterans here. 2013 Dutch Star with 30k on the clock. We want to tow a vehicle as well and would like some advice. Thank you and have a great day!

Great pick & welcome to the forum. We’re glad you’re here. There’s an entire section dedicated to towing and toads (eg. tow’d vehicles). Lots of great information there about vehicles that make good roads, different setups and accessories, pros and cons.

Thank you for your response. So what does the acronym DW stand for? I've seen this but haven't figured it out. Dumb Wife, Ditzy Wife, or in my case Dangerous Wife?😁

I think we all have our own for the D, but W is wife. Same goes for DH. OP = Original Poster (eg. Author)

Welcome. Congrats on your new to you rig, enjoy. Plenty of great folks on this forum to help you out.
A great search function as well that can help you drill down on specific topics and gain insight and understanding.

When asked about toads, I always tell people to start with what you already have. Look at your current vehicles and see if they can be towed, or what would be needed to use them. Some can be towed 4 down (recreational or dinghy tow) others can be towed on a dolly; while others may need a trailer. Vehicles are usually the higher cost component of the towing arrangement.
Once you know about your current vehicles you can make choices based on budget and needs.

Before you buy a new vehicle to tow, understand the full implications of setting it up to tow. this is impacted by your ability to contribute to installs (or not). For example. We dolly towed our first year. We had a front wheel drive car that could easily be towed on a dolly. Only cost was the dolly (~$1500). We (I) tired of this arrangement and decided to find a vehicle that could be towed 4 down and would provide additional space for our pups when on the road. We decided a Chevy Colorado PU would fit our needs. I then looked at what would be needed to make the PU towable. I work rotations and don't have a workshop to work on the truck (do better check than wrench these days). So, to the price of the truck we had to add the price of the parts need to tow. ($5000).

There are ways to do things cheaper, and ways to do things for more. You do you and what fits your life.

Best of luck, see ya around the campfire.

Welcome from Wisconsin. Nice rig.

Welcome from Georgia! We tow a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. We use a Blue Ox tow bar and an Air Force 1 auxillary brake kit for the Jeep. It's about a $5000 set up but it pulls and brakes so smooth we can't even tell it's back there.

Thank you for the reply. What brand aux brake do you use?
