Earlier today, I posted this thread regarding some weird voltage readings


Fortunately, I was quickly helped and got out of the dilemma I thought I was in. I posed 3 questions. 2 were answered.
The 3rd question was asking about voltages at the transfer switch, which is connecting the power to run the coach systems. I’ve always read and have been told that RV AC systems are 2 hot legs of 120VAC. That voltage is between a hot leg to neutral or ground. Hot to hot should have 240 if it is split phase.
During testing, my measurements do not follow this guidance.
Hot red to neutral white = 120
Hot black to neutral white = 120
Hot black to hot red = 0
Ground to neutral = 0 with continuity

If the pedestal power is supposed to be 240 volts between the hot leads, why on generator is it not? Is the generator not split phase?

all systems are running properly.
 
Answering my own question:
According to Mike Sokol, what I am testing is acceptable.
TEST 2: Start up your RV’s on-board generator. With your meter still set to the 600-volt AC scale, test the incoming power from your generator, which should measure 120 volts from red to white and black to white, and either 0 volts or ~240 volts from black to red, depending on if your generator is wired as 120/120 volts or 120/240 volts. Either way is fine, but if you don’t measure any voltage, then something is preventing the generator from producing power, possibly its own circuit breakers. Correct that problem before proceeding with the next test.”

So apparently in the generator it may be selectable to produce 240 volts. Mine does not. I do not have any 240 devices, so therefore OK. My big wonderment was why the difference between voltage tests on the pedestal vs. the generator.
