Hello,

We are starting our search to find a solid trustworthy dealer that will help us as we embark on our new adventure of the rv lifestyle. We are leaning towards a Montana High Country at the moment, but know we will the the support of a great dealer, before and after the sale. However, the more we read the more daunting this becomes because of all the horrible stories we've been reading.

any particular region or is this a nation-wide search?

Hello,

If there's a Chesaco RV near you that's where we got ours, they were awesome to work with

Go local, not a chain.
If you are really willing to travel, I have been extremely happy with Carpenter’s RV in Pensacola, FL.
We had a 3-4 month RV search and exploration with them and have been very happy with the used Class A that we bought.

The local shops seem friendly, but assortment is sparse, and staff seem like they couldn't solve urgent or complicated issues. Big box stores have good selection, but it feels like I'm being lied to by a used car salesman and not treated as a client. I guess we'll need to troll rv parks and ask people for their opinions...at a loss here, thanks for the help.

I don’t know about the 5th Wheel market, but when shopping for my coach it clearly paid to shop nation-wide and many others have found the same thing. Also RVTrader and RVT.com.

I get the, shop a mom and pop, as they usually seem to have a better customer relationship from my readings. However, traveling far from your home point won’t mean much for any immediate service/repairs if needed. Common sense tells me, if you are a long ways away from the seller, this really is of no value when it comes necessary for repairs within a convenient distance.

I think the chains get a bad rap because they sell so much and eventually some reviews will inevitably be negative. You factor in we still suffer from Covid-supply issues……well, even a mom and pop may have their issues providing for you too. But if you just need the best pricing as the sole reason, you can certainly save money by shopping around I am sure.

It‘s probably different for towables. For me I wouldn’t go to a dealer for service anyway, and I wanted a very specific year/model that was unpopular so very few were made, so my market had to be nationwide. And since its on a Freightliner chassis, for repairs I can get it worked on almost anywhere, and I can do all the maintenance myself. For work on the house portion, if I can’t fix it myself I’ll try to schedule an apointment at the factory service center. It may be very different for a 5th wheel.
