Hi all,

We live in Michigan and just bought an “uncle Eddie” motorhome for a covid safe escape,
a 1997 Four Winds Infinity 31ft.

Exterior is very faded, and fair amount of lower interior wall water damage. Roof was sealed after the fact. Realized that we paid too much at 8K, but bones are quite good. Ford 460 with under 17,000 miles. -And new tires all around. It looks almost brand-new underneath.
Most quick remodeling to get on the road is done.
Carpet gone; vinyl plank down; repaired, primed and painted walls; temp seals on windows (plan to remove and reseal when we get down to warmer weather.)
Awning was bought from salvage by PO, and as I understand it, does not fit the ‘slot’ on the side so it pulls away when deployment is attempted. Will be looking for new awnings, as we can only tolerate a moderate amount of butt ugly.
Both holding tanks are half full and no doubt frozen.
Plan add a few gallons of RV antifreeze (maybe some urea ice melt pellets?)to ‘soften’ for transport south where we can dump. Hoping to prevent iceberg damage during driving...
It will be interesting and fun.
We have owned RVs in the past, so not entirely novice.
Any thoughts, ideas or warnings on the holding tanks much appreciated!

—Jim

Welcome @JimnLisa to the friendly group of RVers. Good luck with your recent purchase and making it what you want. Pray for spring and hope you don’t have any plumbing leaks.?. It can be a fun process making it your own.

Welcome to RVF, @JimnLisa; glad to have you here with us. I admire folks who rescue older RVs and get them back on the road. We'll be following your restoration progress and, eventually, your travels. You asked "if ice can damage sensors?" What sensors are you talking about; holding tanks? While there are several different "sensor" mechanisms, I can't think of any that would be damaged by ice.

thanks
Yes, I was thinking of the holding tank sensors if a ‘berg’ was floating and banging around in there, thawing as we head south.

Most sensors are external on the tank, some have a float type inside at the top for the full level.
if fresh water tank was not drained there is a high likelihood that the water lines were not drained and flushed with antifreeze. This could cause leaks in the water system.

Welcome to RVF. I would plan on leaks. That way you won't be surprised or upset. It sounds like you will do just fine with any problem you have. The 460 is a good engine and the under side looks good. Carefree of colorado is a good place to get your awning. You can check them out on Internet. Good luck safe travels and keep us posted.
