Hello! We are in the market for a travel trailer with a separate bunkroom for the kids. We are wanting to stay under $40,000. I've been researching for forever and still don't think I'm really any closer to making a decision due to the overwhelming number of models available!

Right now I’m leaning towards a 2022 Salem Hemisphere 310BHI at $40,000, a 2022 31KQBTS at $35,000 or possible going used. One I found that I liked is a 2020 used 3230BHS at $30,000. Any thoughts on those models and their prices? Any other models we should be looking at?

If you are handy, can diagnose issues and repair things, save a few dollars and buy a trailer that is 2 or 3 years old. Look carefully at the interior for nicks, scratches, and such which will disclose use and abuse. There are a few things to expect, likely needs new tires, a new battery, check wheels and brakes, and repair/replace if necessary.

If on the other hand, you aren't handly, then you'll pay the price, and hope the dealer will take care of the issues. In either case, expect to have issues. Some to most are minor, and hopefully very few are major.

Make sure your tow vehicle is rated for the load it will be pulling. Get those numbers first, gross weight for towing, gross cargo weight, and move forward from there. Figure 80% as a safe value for those numbers. An overloaded trailer or tow vehicle can be very dangerous, not to mention likely issues to spoil your trip.

If your towing with a truck a fifth wheel will tow much better than a travel trailer. There are bunk models to choose from.
