Hi guys

What do you recommend for pulling a 15,000 lb stacker? Not really looking for a Renegade or Super Class C. We have been looking at Thor Venetian as we need 2 baths, bunks and overhead bed (if possible). Would love to hear of others.

Thank you.

Welcome to RVF, @Gio82906; glad you’ve joined us here.

That’s a lot of trailer! If I was wanting to tow “a 15,000 stacker,” I would certainly be looking for a Class A diesel pusher with at least 500 HP and Allison 4000-series transmission. Even with the optional 400 HP Cummins on the Venetian, you will be maxed out with the 15,000 rated tow capacity. And, I think you would be pretty slow in hilly/mountainous country.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thank you!! We were also going to use a 5000 SD Trailer Toad. Would that make a difference (help) with the Venetian.

I don’t understand what you are getting at here. What is a “5000 SD Trailer Toad?” Are you saying that instead of a 15,000-pound stacker you would be towing a 5,000-pound vehicle? Need some clarification.

Sorry I didn’t explain that well. The RV would be pulling a 15,000 lb stacker. We were going to attach the Trailer Toad to the RV also. I’m posting a link. I hope you can view it. Let me know if not.

Went to the link and now understand the “5,000 SD Trailer Toad.” From what I can tell, it simply deals with tongue weight. And, it will add 700 pounds to what you are towing. So, instead of 15,000 pounds for the Stacker alone, you will now be at 15,700 pounds. That will put you over the Venetian’s maximum hitch towing weight of 15,000 pounds.

Adding the Trailer Toad does nothing to reduce towed weight (in fact, it increases it) or to address a shortage of HP/torque and a strong enough transmission to tow this kind of a load. With your proposed setup, I think you are into the high-end Class A diesel pushers built for this kind of service; 500 HP and up, and Allison 4000-series transmission or better. YMMV

Thank you for all of this information!! Do you have any suggestions for high end Class A makes?

Most of the Stackers that size that I see are being towed by Prevost conversions and Newell coaches. Some of the high-end Newmar, Tiffin and Entegra coaches are capable of doing it as well. I’d be looking for a Newmar London Aire and above, Entegra Cornerstone or Tiffin Zephyr. Of course, Newell coaches and Prevost conversions (FeatherLite, Liberty, Marathon, Foretravel, etc.) are also capable, but pretty pricey.

Just out of curiosity, what will you be putting in the Stacker to get to 15K pounds?
