The other day the two year old Microwave stopped working. Checked the plug receptacle for power, OK. According to the repair service that removed the unit from OTR, they will charge $400+ to repair the unit.

I pulled the cover off the microwave to find that a thermostat safety had literally melted from over temp. The circuit has failed open based on a continuity test. The OEM part is cheap enough, $14 delivered.
According to an internet search, this is a common failure with newer microwaves.

I'll do it myself and eat the service call charge.

This is just a heads up that the newer microwaves have components that are cheap, easy to diagnosis (YouTube or similar) and easily replaced. BTW the work gloves I am wearing are great!!

Wondering about clearance of micro installation.

Note that this thermostat sits directly above the micro wave cooking area. The vent you see below the thermostat mounting hole is the microwave cooking area.
That's an interesting thought though...the grill next to the thermostat faces the front of the unit. The picture orientation is from top down.
Never paid much attention to the cooling fan, and wonder if it is running during operation allowing this area to vent.

Thanks, I'll check that when I put it back together.
