The most notable being the campground in Key West. Unforunately just having a DD-214 won't get you in, nor will a VA Health Care Systems ID Card. There are some campgrounds that " may" allow non retired, non disabled veterans access at the base commander's discretion, but I wouldn't count on it. Medal of Honor recipients and the recipients of certain other medals are exceptions.

The firearm thing has kept me away except one time. I stayed at Ft Meade Md because it was close to a veterinary clinic my dog needed at the time.

Pro tip: If staying at Meade, do not take a wrong turn trying to get off the base and end up at the entrance gate to NSA. An unpleasant experience will be had.
