We just bought our first 5th wheel in preparation for being empty nester in the next 2 yrs. We are curious about RV club memberships and whether or not it's worth it. Looking for tips and ideas.

Welcome! Lots of different clubs and memberships for different purposes. The reality is that each club or membership is worth something to someone. It’s just a matter of aligning your needs and expectations with the clubs and memberships that best meet them. So maybe start by outlining what you’re looking for, and I’m sure you’ll get lots of feedback on the best clubs and memberships are meeting those needs.

Welcome!
Get out and start trying different venues to see what kind of campgrounds you enjoy, how you like to use your rig. Talk to fellow campers. When you find kindred spirits, see what clubs work for them. check out clubs on FB and see how the work, and if it feels right for you.
Once you get camping, your path becomes clearer.

Cheers,
j

I joined many clubs when I started in 2017. It's a different story looking back on what I actually USED. I would join them as you "need" them. Some offer magazines which is nice. I'm at a point now where I'm not renewing things I don't use or haven't used for years. This also includes some tech sites related to RVing, campground finder sites I no longer use, etc.

Welcome! If you are planning on a little traveling the first couple of years you might consider a couple cheap discount memberships to start (Good Sams, PassPort America, etc.). I would take it slow and get a little personal experience under your belt before jumping into any of the more expensive memberships.

As far as paid RV groups that offer social activities you may want to go slow again. We initially joined FMCA but made so many new friends in our Florida winter spot that we never really attended any rallies with FMCA, so we dropped them. I think you will soon find that if you annually camp in one park for a couple months or more you will establish really close friends quickly.
