Any advice about buying pre 2010 diesel pusher
Versus newer models ?

I have been tempted to buy a pre-def coach (2008 Monaco Bishop IV to be specific) but I’ve read of so many expensive fuel system problems on older coaches that it seems to balance with the emissions issues we face with newer coaches. At this point I have chosen to well familiarize myself with the emissions system on my coach and enjoy the other benefits of a newer model. Also you should verify when they started installing the DPF in these rigs as people seem to have nearly as much trouble with that part of the system as with DEF. I believe it was 2008 but I’m not certain. But even with a DPF, understanding the care and maintenance of the system is usually all that is required to have a relatively trouble free experience.

Just my two cents. Technology improvements abound from 2010 until now. Even a two year difference among coach manufactures makes a great difference. If you can afford it go as new as possible.

I recently purchased a 2009 King Aire following the logic that it was "the highest end coach" I could afford to pay cash for at the time. In some ways I succeeded and in some ways I failed. Successes, a 2009 pre-def coach with a 650 hp Cummins that is very hard to find now. Much better build quality interior and much heavier chassis than the "newer" coaches I was able to afford on my budget. Failures include all electronic coach with most of the electronics being hopelessly out of date, with many electronic modules no longer available. Some items I could live without (some electronic shades replaced with manual ones), and other items just needed to be replaced (in dash electronics, stereo, camera systems, gps, etc).

Would I do it again, I probably would but I would have paid more attention to the interior layout as the one we bought really didn't suit our needs and needed to be gutted. When the smoke cleared we were left with a very comfortable layout that suits our needs, but totally destroyed the cohesive factory look and that I suspect will bite us big time when we decide to sell it and "retire" from the lifestyle. Until that time comes, we are enjoying a lot of the features of a high end coach on OUR budget, and working around the fact that some of the items have timed out in their usefulness and require replacement with more modern alternatives. It keeps my RV tech busy at least! Best advice is to analyze exactly how you will be using a coach and look for models that fit that usage as closely as possible.

The good news is it's only money!💰😳😳.
