Hello, just upgraded Fourwinds with gas gen to Quantum with propane generator. Been in Sequoias and gen doesn't seem to like starting in the subfreezing Temps. Anyone have experience with this?

I’ve noticed that propane regulators tend to freeze up when its cold out - something to to with adiabatic cooling probably. PV=nRT and all that.

And the amount of propane (in the tank) shrinks in cold winter temps which lowers the tank pressures. That creates low flow which makes it hard to ignite normally.

I have read that propane tank heating pads are made but imagine the amperage draw would be awful.

Cold temperatures = lower vapor pressures from the liquid propane in the tank. I have not done it but a relatively short length of water pipe heat tape (available in any hardware store) wrapped and insulated around the propane tank should do it. It will likely only take 10-15 watts of well insulated heat to make a significant difference in the vapor pressure.
