Newbie here. We have a 2008 Newmar grand star 3751. The stairs act up. Right now they are stuck almost fully retracted and won’t move.GRATEFUL for All input to fix this
TIA
Steve

Make sure they are lubed and that the ground is clean and tight.

Check all electrical connections to be sure they are clean. DO NOT get under them in case they start to work while you are working on them. There is a magnet switch in the door, be sure it is aligned properly.

"magnet getting stuck in motor", is what an RV tech told me a couple years ago.

We had an appointment to get the toppers replaced on our slides one morning on our almost 3 year old Newmar. The steps would not move so I called the tech and told him I would have to reschedule. He made that statement then asked me if I had a hammer!

I thought he was nuts but figured I would try what he said. He had me lay down and reach under there and start tapping the step motor with the hammer while the DW kept pushing the button. After about 6 or 8 taps the steps came in. We owned the coach for almost another year and it they never stuck again. I guess they didn't want to get beat on again.

Every six months or sooner, they are suppsed to be lubricated, use Wd-40 or the recommended oil per manfacturer. I clean contacts on door once or twice year when remember. Turn of master/house switch and even then steps most likely are powered on, find the fuze in the box, pull it with steps extended, and then and only then check the electrical connections putting electrical grease on those (NO-OX-ID-Special A on amazon). This should solve problems unless motor is going out, not real common but not unheard of either. Let is know.
