Last year my steps were making some funny noises after driving in wet weather. I had to turn off my chassis battery nite switch to get them to stop. This year they won’t deploy at all. Any idea wha the part number I need to get my steps to function? Thank you for your experience

Make and model of your step manufacturer? It's probably a Lippert. I suspect one of three parts will be the culprit. The controller, The door closed sensor but more than likely, the step motor. If your set up is the same as mine you can pick up a replacement motor from NAPA. NAPA Part # 655-2596 Don't be asking them for a motor for your step though. Lippert uses a Ford Power Window Lift Motor. Make sure you take your original with you to compare. What you need to check is the size of the three bolt holes that anchor the unit and the width of the gear. I had one that was packaged wrong. It looked correct and until I tried to install it, I though I was home free. Instructions on installation available on You Tube.

Good luck

Agree with the above...it's one of three possibilities. The magnetic switch at the door is easy to check (with a magnet 😉)...if not that then you can check the motor either in place (be very careful as steps may deploy or retract), if not the motor then it's the controller. I changed ALL three and mine still didn't work. Finally called an expert and he swamped out my brand new controller (made in CCP) and it worked flawlessly. The good news is the parts are not overly expensive:

When I had my 4369 Newmar I had a step issue when I hit the 2 year mark. We were getting ready to close up to go get new slide toppers installed and my steps would not retract. Coach had been sitting for 3 months.

When I called the tech to tell him I would be late due to the stop issue he gave me something to try. He told me to tap on the step motor while the DW opened and closed the door of the coach. He said sometimes the magnetic motor gets stuck or something like that. I thought he was crazy but after about the 5th or 6th tap with the hammer they worked and worked every time after that. Just make sure you hand is out of the way when tapping!

I just replaced my motor. It was 7 years old. What I think helped with the longevity was lubrication every month using a dry lube. Also did a DS Don mod and extended the front side mud flap of the front tire. Less water kicked up on the motor when driving in the rain.
Took the cover off the old motor and it was pretty corroded.
