While we rely on surge protectors to do their job, and while some have indicators and some do not, they do have a lifetime in regard to how many surges can they accept and continue providing protection.

Experts recommend you replace your surge protector every 2 years. A surge protector is rated in joules, which indicates how much excessive power they can handle when an electrical surge occurs. However, this figure can be hard to track as surges vary from area to area.

Sounds expensive. Will have to check with Hughes and PI.

If you use a Hughs Autoformer and/or one of their Surge protectors, they have indicators when the surge protection has become "used up" or compromised So no need to get rid of them after a specific period of time.
