Found this on a FB page dedicated to people who grew up in Lone Pine, California. Which I was one. . .

Here is an early 1950s photo along Route 66 at the Summit of Cajon Pass, California. The Buick pulling a trailer has a desert water bag hanging from their front bumper which was the right thing to do back then when driving in the desert when the radiator would overheat. It looks like their trailer is called "The Magic Carpet."

Wonder if they had trouble getting park reservations 😁😎

My dad had one of those canvas water bags hanging off his front bumper when we traveled from Fresno to Colorado when I was a kid. Had to use it several times climbing over the mountains.
