Original tires were ST205/75R14
Repairman wants to sell me a set (4) of 205/75D14. (not R14)
What should I buy?

First thing, how much weight is on the tires? Sounds like they want to put load range D tires on it. What was the original rating? Also, when purchasing tires, look at the date code. It will look like this and only be on one side of the tire

What are the tires on? There are usually placards on the trailer or vehicle which indicate the required size and type of tire. Nothing less than that stated should be used.

The difference between these tire is that one is Radial "R" and the other is bias ply "D". Also, check load rating as Bias ply maybe be different than Radial construction.

Also

"The ST205/75R14 tire is radial type that will typically run cooler than a bias ply and this means it will be likely to last longer. Also a radial tire flexes more than a bias ply tire, giving it better ground contact, traction, stability, and tread wear."
