We're totally new to the RV seen. I'm Michael and my wife is Teresa. We're excited to get started on this new adventure and would love any advice we can get.

Been full timing in a 5th for about 4 months. (7,000 + miles). My worst part is the hooking up and un hooking up. I seem to have issued with this for some reason. With 3 slide outs and 37 foot length I love the room.

Post anything specific and I’ll try to help. This forum is top notch in answering questions. imho.

When you hook up always do a tug test. Leave the wheel chocks blocking the fifth wheel tires and front jacks barely off the ground and pull forward just a tad to feel the resistance and make sure your pin is locked.

Thanks and good advice. I always look with a flashlight to see the “jaws” are locked around the pin then do the tug test. My problem is sometimes I have to back up on the pin multiple times until the “jaws” close.

This blows me away. My name is Teresa, and my fiancé's name is Michael. We're also new to the fifth wheel life!

The most important thing I learned, and not the easy way, was that once you think you’ve pulled wide enough to make a turn, pull a little wider, because 5th wheel trailers don't follow the tow vehicle, they cut the corner. Also don’t jack knife any more than necessary. There is a lot of capability there but at the expense of your tires when they are dragged sideways.

I'm really lucky in that my Michael is a truck driver, so he pulled our trailer away from the dealer looking like a total pro! Still makes me nervous to drive though - the biggest thing I've ever hauled is a horse trailer and it wasn't as big as our Yukon

Welcome aboard! I was just up in Waynesville a few weeks ago.
