Question Wall safe option

Looking at the wall safe option in a Dutch Star, but chose not to get it.

how many folks purchased this option? Could be useful, especially if fire proof.

If it is the same as the one in our Superstar, it is not very deep.

Do keep some papers, personal protective equipment, etc in there though.

Ours had it installed when the dealer ordered for their stock but, if we were to order something, we’d probably add it as an option.

I have it, not sure I'd do it again as it takes up valuable closet space. Instead you can buy your own safe and probably do far better than what they use and locate it where works best for you.

I thought I would like the safe in my London Aire, but I've changed my mind.

I doubt it's fireproof. If you can order a for real fireproof safe, then it might have some merit, but the one in my coach sure doesn't look very secure. A friend told me the first thing he did was to open it and lock it open. His take on it was that if someone is going to steal his stuff, he'd rather they didn't destroy the inside of his coach when they ripped the safe out. Which really wouldn't be that hard.

I got locked out of mine when I was in Florida last year and had to hire a locksmith. After watching him open it, I had to laugh. It's simple enough and there are actually videos on the net showing how simple it is.

Anyhow, I have one, but don't use it anymore. And if I were ordering a new coach, the standard issue model that Newmar uses would not be something that I would want to pay for.

Thank you all, it appears we believe as you all do that it is best to buy an after market unit if you feel a safe is necessary.

I use a floor safe! It is big enough for a small fire box inside, but I only have stuff that won't burn in it. I use a fire safe for important papers.

I bought a portable fireproof, waterproof safe. Small enough to pack, big enough to store papers, passport, etc. Keep it near the front of the coach for easy retrieval.

As Neal said, the factory safe interfers with hanging stuff in the closet and while our passports and some other stuff reside in ours it isn’t really necessary. Also given the position high on a wall, the contents would not survive a free-burning fire, regardless of “fire proof” claims.

I would think a small portable fireproof safe stashed under the bed or even inside the dinette storage area would be sufficient for most people.

I would agree! But, I sleep with the door open. How does that sit with most people?
