Hello-
New RV owner here, we purchased a 1999 Holiday Rambler Vacationer 36 and are in the process of making some upgrades. While removing carpet and installing flooring, I came across this small box in the front left of the passenger footwell, next to the engine compartment. There is a hole in the front and it opens into the engine bay, but there is nothing inside it and the hole is open. Can anyone help me understand its purpose? There have been a number of alterations made to this RV over the years, but this appears to be original. Thanks!

I have no clue! I could be wrong, but I really don't think it was original to the coach build.

I have no idea but that certainly doesn't look original. What is under/behind it?

It's an empty box, plywood on the outside and metal on the inside. The metal part is part of the engine bay, and the white caulking you see in the image is the same as was used around the RV, on the floor, stairs, etc. So I am pretty certain it is original.

What is it for? Looks like a 4th grade shop class made it. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I have that exact piece on my 97 Vacationer. There was a 120v outlet mounted on it. The metal was to shield the heater hose running behind it.

That's the beauty of RVF; fellow RVers sharing information! Thanks for joining us here, @Spinroch and for adding to our knowledge base. Well done!

I just joined today! I have been an iRv2 member for a long time, but their focus seems to have shifted to newer/new $250k + RVs. I am renovating my 3rd RV right now, a 97 HR Vacationer. Thank You!

Thanks, this is what I suspected. At some point someone must have removed it and the related wiring.

Nice to meet someone with a similar rig!

Oh, there is a lot. I will try to post pics of my work on “Stella”. Floors (down to the frame), walls, electrical, dash work.... I have done a lot of investigation and documentation of the 12v electrical system (including the under hood fuse/relay board) as there is virtually no documentation on the wiring. Work is keeping me really busy now but: In the meantime, I will jump in if I have the answer someone is looking for 😁
