Is there a reason that Whirlpool recommends opening the grey tank dump valve when doing laundry -other than avoiding overflow of the tank?

The tank is vented, but is there a back pressure built up or something?

I thought it safer to ask those with years of experience, rather than make seemingly logical assumptions.
, and damage something.

Thanks.

Following. With the macerater hooked up, do you run the pump?

Yes, to avoid overfilling it. I can run several loads with no problem and often do when I need more water in gray to dump black soon.
