Hi all. Woohoo. 😊. An EV tow vehicle section. Not much to contribute today. But here’s our combo.

So, how far can you go on a charge while towing the additional weight? Seems like it would really cut the distance down. Maybe not?

We count on losing half our range when towing. Although it really is highly affected by the speed. We just came back from a trip up to one of the provincial parks in the area. It was 70 kilometres each way and we used about half our battery. But it’s all secondary highways with max speed limits of 80 kmh or less. Consumption is much lower at those speeds. But the safe thing to do is count on 50 percent loss. Great tow combo though. 447 horsepower and the hills are invisible. 😊.

Hope that helps.

Here’s a couple shots of that trip. Still very cold at night this time of year. It froze every night we were there. Sunny days though and with snow on the distant mountains it was beautiful.

Looks like a great place to camp!!

I was thinking an electric vehicle would lose about 50% of the distance available on a charge but it was just a guess on my part. Looks like I was close. One thing I didn't know was that you had 447 HP. Wow! Any idea how much torque you have? Torque is really what you need for towing. But HP is for maintaining your speed and it looks like once you are moving that shouldn't be a problem!!

The torque for a model Y with the AB option like ours (acceleration boost option) is 505 lbs. The performance version has 450 hp and 639 pounds torque.

A standard AWD model Y (without the AB option) is 375 horsepower. But I don’t know the torque for that model.

Just for giggles we did a zero to sixty run with the trailer (3450 pounds loaded). Still did it in just about 8 seconds. And all without making a bit of noise. 😊. It’s nuts.

Cheers.

Wow!

So at around 86 miles half your batter is used up towing that tiny trailer? I suspect this is not an RV combination you would ever venture very far from home with?
