Fault light means it failed to ignite after 3 tries. This could be for a variety of reasons. The biggest are low voltage, low propane pressure, sail switch not making contact(can happen if the low voltage makes the fan spin slow), a failed high temp limit switch(rare) and a bad board.

There are other reasons but not as likely. If you turn the switch off and back on it will try to light again 3 times. If you have had your propane disconnected for awhile, it can take a couple of tries to get back there. Your stove is not an indicator of your propane pressure. It will light and work with much lower pressure then the furnace.

Water heater!

Ok, Has it been running all along? It is still a failure to ignite issue. Still can be low voltage, low propane pressure, bad board, and a bad ignitor(meaning it is not sparking correctly). There are a couple of limit switches behind either a rectangular panel with circles on it or a sticky foam with eco and such on it. These are the thermostats for electric(120v) and propane(12v). If you have propane only, it is only going to have 12vdc on it. IT is possible still for it to be a gas valve. If someone else turns on the switch after it is off and you hear a "thunk" from the valve, it is most likely good, not always of course.

Model # please. It is on a tag on the side of the WH outside under the cover.
