We just did the same thing, and love it. Great to have internet while on the road when in areas of no cell service. We parked in the redwoods, and still had service. Judy DI used the ground mount my first year, but since my summer camp site is in a heavily forested area, the ground mount was challenging. That next winter I installed the roof mount larger version, and have never regretted it. It was more money up front, but the only place I ever lose internet connection is when I am at the Loves or other Diesel under the metal canopy.
The in motion is a no brainer as it solves the communications problems while driving. Our cell phones are setup on that as wifi, and we enable the cellular over wifi mode on the iPhone. We are able to make and receive calls and texts anywhere at anytime. In the past we would have dead zones while traveling in Montana, Wyoming, and other remote areas.
The unit is so large that it works very well in treed areas. My DirectTV cannot find a signal, but the starlink works perfect.
Since this thread is kind of a general discussion on Starlink, I thought I’d ask my question here.
The new motorhome I just bought had Starlink already installed with a fixed non-movable dish mounted on the back of the motorhome roof and it runs through the Wi-Fi router in the motorhome.
The Starlink router that came with the dish is still in a box and not being used, so I was wondering if I could use that Starlink router in my house when I’m home and just unmount the dish from the motorhome and put it on the roof of my house and just have one account. I’ll either at home or in the motorhome and would only use it wherever I am ... never in both places at the same time.
Anybody have any experience doing this. If so, I could get the unlimited roaming account which I think is about $170 a month and be set on the road or at home. I did ask Gork and it indicated I could for what that is worth.
