Waiting on wife to retire Dec 31. And trying to figure out what to sell to pay the taxes on the new class A we just bought out of state. Louisiana wants her 10%. 😬

Louisiana’s problem is and always has been a disproportionate share of its population pay no taxes, partially offset by the plurality which do. We Texan’s, just next door, pay roughly half as much for auto insurance as Louisianans, because of the large number of uninsured motorists in our sister State.

Yeah, we're considering move after wife retires. Maybe TX or AR or Missouri.

We live in Georgia and bought in Texas. I contacted the office here and they even talked with the dealer. I just did not want to over pay in tax. It worked out. Enjoy your rig.

Update, louisiana tax is 5% and parish (county) is 5%.

A little worse than NY. But in Fl car ins is twice what it is in NY. Every place has their way of extracting our money.

Congratulations on the coach, and welcome to the forum.

You’re retirement age and didn’t know that you were going to pays sales tax and registration fees on a vehicle???
I learned that in my early 20s…

Re-read the comment. Said nothing about not knowing.

Just unprepared then…
Unprepared would mean to me that he doesn't have the resources to pay the tax. It sounds to me like he has several options.

Thank you. Choices include cash, but that just wasnt as funny as I hoped to be. 😉

Unable to know humor when you see it?
I guess…
I didn’t read that as humorous, but instead read that you had purchased a vehicle out of state thinking you got a good deal until you tried to register it.
I hear about this very situation often when people buy out of state and/or buy from private parties.

My bad…
