I signed up for St. Brendan's Isle today after discussing with @ARD as my new concern about RVing, FT or not, is mail! My mother watched my house for me, collected mail, scanned and sent it to me. You don't have to be a Fulltimer to use SBI's mail services so I signed up for that but I'm ready with all else too if I decide to go FT next year. I may ask the neighbor or cousin but if I can start working towards getting mail sent to this address, it's just less to worry about or burden others with. I will still probably need someone to watch my house and my sister or BIL can help with that as needed without the need for frequent mail checks.

As I think about Fulltiming, my main concern is that I'm single/solo with dog. What if I need to go inpatient unplanned and have to find arrangements for my dog? That is a top concern. What if my RV ends up in the shop for who knows how long and I need to find a place to stay that allows large dogs much less one that sheds a lot. Again, always a concern when I go RVing, what would I do?

Finally is medical. I need surgery, or have a mobility issue, how am I going to handle that and like all of the above, the dog!?!!

When everything works, RVing is a great joy. When things go south, it becomes a nightmare fast.

I have no "need" to sell my house and it will be long hard thinking before that happens, the only thing that would drive me to do it is residency or I find I really do want to up and move to Florida, RVer or not. I love the water and that's my happy place.

The dog: We plan our RV's service as much as we can (preventative maintenance is always a good thing). When we do, we always make sure that we have access to a pet friendly motel/hotel. If we break down, we always have the towed that we can use in an emergency. Not roomy or comfortable as it is a two door but we can make do. The same concerns can arise on short trips too so really, it doesn't matter if you FT or PT.

Right now, we have left our fur baby at our daughter's as we are on a cruise to Alaska. Had she not been available there are plenty of good kennels that we would have used.

Medical: That is always a concern. Again, preventative maintenance. We make sure we undergo a complete physical when we reach home base (daughters). That is normally once a year. We make note of anything that is unusual. Aches, pains, weight gain or loss (depending on how good the BBQ has been).

We carry extra insurance even when travelling in Canada. Lots of times different procedures are not covered equally by provinces. Emergency coverage is much better in the US but no matter where you are, your medial aid is usually not far away. We know quite a few full timers that make an annual trek to Los Algodones for their dental, vision, hearing and other medical needs. We have used dental and vision care there and found it top notch.

As always, there is no way one can plan for every event. Life is always a gamble. So far, we have not encountered anything that has been detrimental. For us, the adventure has always been worth it.
