Canadian West Coast

I have to name this "Where were you with your Jayco today". Sorry to jump in but.... We are traveling to the Canadian West Coast. The forests are on fire and the smoke is so thick it stings our eyes. If you have ever driven the Coquihalla you will know there are some long, steep grades. A fellow coach owner almost made it to the top of one but sadly, didn't make it. The coach caught fire and started another forest fir. We were about 15 minutes behind. Photo one is what was left taken by us. Photo two was copied from a local newspaper. We are in Merritt British Columbia for the night.

We're sort'a on our way to Manning Provincial Park for a few nights then on to Coalmont and 4 wheeling at Whipsaw near Princeton and then Hedley to explore the old Nickle Plate mine, until Hwy 3 was closed because of the fires just east of Hope BC which is where we sit at a diesel card lock truck stop working on plan "B"

I'm not sure if you have planed another route but, from Hope Rt 5 to Merritt then 5A to Princeton is still doable. Good luck and drive safe.

I see the 'Hope/Princeton' -- Hwy 3 -- is now open.

Absolutely brutal pics from the Coquihalla -- we worry about this all the time, with our Class C, on the many long, steep grades here in BC and through the Rockies into Alberta.

I hope your friends can get themselves sorted out and back into a new RV soon.

They were not friends (that I'm aware of). We just happened by and the navigator took the photo. When we got there there was no way we could tell what kind of vehicle it was. It wasn't until I checked the local news that we discovered it was a coach. The wild fire it started was put out fairly quickly. We saw the helicopter with the water bucked fly over us soon after we passed by. Glad 3 is now open. One more fire under control. Hoping for 97 to open up too as we are trying to do the Cariboo up to Dawson then across to the Peace Country.

The Coke grades can be a bitch if one is in a hurry. We normally just let the engine rev to around 3500 and crawl up. I don't care who or what passes me. I have never had the engine or trans overheat yet. We crawl down too. I hate the smell of burning brake pads!

Thanks for the route suggestion. We're back at Birch Bay. Red tide closure has been lifted so we'll be digging clams for the rest of the summer. We'll try again after Labor day to go to Manning Park & 4 wheeling the Hudson Bay trail at Whipsaw.
