When it is illegal to tow two units

I came across this combination at a park we are visiting just outside of Golden BC. When you have a long Toy Hauler and need to bring your boat along as well. I wonder how the boat gets loaded and unloaded!

I'm sure gravity will help with unloading. That setup must be a carnival ride on a windy day.

Loading and unloading must be a real pita. At this point in my life I always think first, Is the juice worth the squeeze.

I would have to assume they would seek out a marina with a sling lift or travel lift to remove the boat and trailer. It's most likely just a point A to point B transport.

He is from Alberta (according to the license plate) where it is legal to some extent but not in BC.

You can't tow doubles in Alberta with a bumper pull in the lead.

I have no idea if that particular setup as he has it is legal here. I feel like at the very least he would be in for a long conversation if he was pulled over by a sheriff.

You are correct. The first tow must be a 5th or goose neck. But even still, I think this unit would still be too long to double tow. I just wonder about the weight issue. I don't know what the boat weighs nor how much the hitch weight might be. It just seems an odd set up.

Why wouldn’t this be legal anywhere? He’s only towing the trailer.

As far as loading and unloading, those tilt and slide and then have ramps and a winch setup to roll it down. Still a lot to deal with unless you’re going to stay at a destination for a few weeks

That sure looks like a full-blown boat trailer to me, not a set of dollies. I'm also pretty sure that isn't a light-weight aluminum boat either. It may be aluminum, but that outboard is most certainly not light-weight.

Legal or not, I don't think I would enjoy driving that set up very much.

You’re right, I deleted that post because after viewing the sites it wasn’t this setup at all.

I believe it is legal. I'm sure that is why he is set up the way it is. Because the Toy Hauler is a bumper pull, towing another trailer would not be legal probably anywhere in Canada. I just though the setup was a bit outlandish. I did not see any type of winch system but I'm darn sure he didn't push the thing up there and there is not a track for the single wheel at the front.
