Any thoughts? I have a Ram 2500, 5.7 hemi & 4.10 gears. Bought it years ago. Didn’t have much luck with the 1500 transmissions. Just got our first 5th wheel. Stayed at 8000#. I’m more realistic with “capabilities”. Was getting 8.5 mpg @ 65 mph. Wife says go faster. At 70 mph I’m down to 7 mpg. She thinks we should go to a diesel. I also have the million mile warranty with this truck. I think we should stay with what we got. Trucks paid for.

So million mile warranty, paid for, and will tow your fiver. I don’t think I would hit that hand. Tell the wife you’ll drive at whatever speed she wants as long as she will pay for the mileage difference. (I kid)

That said, sounds like the truck you have is working for you and I'm of a mind that says "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Not everyone wants or needs a diesel engine. If your truck pulls your camper fine then I wouldn't change a thing. Especially if it's paid for. I sell Ram trucks with the Cummins diesel engines for a living and I think you'd be VERY happy with one. But they are over $10,000 more than the 6.4L Hemi and the oil changes are 3 times as much. But man them Cummins engines can PULL!!!! Life is all about compromise my friend. There are better drive trains out there than you have but at what price? If you like the gas engine and you ever want to trade up to a newer truck, look at the 2500 with the 6.4L Hemi. It's actually totally different than the 5.9L Hemi. It was designed from the beginning to be a "truck" engine. Everything is cammed and tuned for more torque and when you drive it, it shows. Good luck and let me know if I can answer any questions. My buddy got a new 2500/6.4 because of mine. My truck is extremely popular at work. Couple of the guys did a 2500 mile trip to Canada in it with me. Walleye fishing. The 6.4 is a good motor, I’m just old fashioned and worried about the multiple displacement stuff. Variable valve timing still worries me.

I had a 2001 Ram 1500 Off-Road edition, 5.9. Absolutely loved that truck. 175k miles on it. Took 3 transmissions to get there. Would’ve lasted longer except for the squirrels.
