Not everyone wants or needs a diesel engine. If your truck pulls your camper fine then I wouldn't change a thing. Especially if it's paid for. I sell Ram trucks with the Cummins diesel engines for a living and I think you'd be VERY happy with one. But they are over $10,000 more than the 6.4L Hemi and the oil changes are 3 times as much. But man them Cummins engines can PULL!!!! Life is all about compromise my friend. There are better drive trains out there than you have but at what price? If you like the gas engine and you ever want to trade up to a newer truck, look at the 2500 with the 6.4L Hemi. It's actually totally different than the 5.9L Hemi. It was designed from the beginning to be a "truck" engine. Everything is cammed and tuned for more torque and when you drive it, it shows. Good luck and let me know if I can answer any questions. Go Dawgs!! :ROFLMAO:

My buddy got a new 2500/6.4 because of mine. My truck is extremely popular at work. Couple of the guys did a 2500 mile trip to Canada in it with me. Walleye fishing. The 6.4 is a good motor, I’m just old fashioned and worried about the multiple displacement stuff. Variable valve timing still worries me.

use the oil listed and you will be fine.

Yah I think that was the 3speed/OD. Big problems with that one. The real problem with it was people not locking out the OD when hauling or towing. Started rebuilding one one time to find the tail stock un-removable. I didn't quit and broke it apart to find the clutch plates welded together in the over drive. The transmission was the bullet proof 727.

I was religious about killing overdrive. Course first time I was towing, I set the cruise at 75 & rolled on. 3500 rpm. When I realized I could watch the fuel gauge going down I backed off the throttle and settled in around 3000 and I could live with that.

I had a 2001 Ram 1500 Off-Road edition, 5.9. Absolutely loved that truck. 175k miles on it. Took 3 transmissions to get there. Would’ve lasted longer except for the squirrels.
When Mercedes bought Chrysler they went through their trucks and re-engineered them front to back. The change was INCREDIBLE. This was about 2010? One of the first things they fixed was the transmissions. I had a 2013 with the 6 speed auto and never a minutes trouble with it. I now have a 2019 with the 8 speed auto and WOW!!! The same basic Ram 1500 went from 13 MPG to 22 MPG on the highway and about 20 MPG overall. The also strengthened the frames and fixed the front end problems. Then when Fiat bought them a few years ago they put the cherry on top with their Italian leather interiors. Nobody can do leather like the Italians. Man these trucks are a joy to drive. I'm a traveling salesman and put about 50k a year on one. I sell Ram Commercial Trucks to the Dealers in the South from a Ram Truck Bailment Pool in Atlanta. We also build and install the bodies that go on the chassis, like service bodies, gooseneck bodies, dump bodies, flat beds, crane bodies, etc. Companies are buying these trucks faster than we can get them built! Literally. I haven't had an unsold truck actually on the ground for over 4 months and I usually keep about 200 in inventory. I'm taking orders for trucks I don't even have VIN numbers for yet!! This economy is incredible. I shake my head every time I hear the media trying to convince us that we're in the middle of a recession. LOL!! I certainly hope so!!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
