Yah I think that was the 3speed/OD. Big problems with that one. The real problem with it was people not locking out the OD when hauling or towing. Started rebuilding one one time to find the tail stock un-removable. I didn't quit and broke it apart to find the clutch plates welded together in the over drive. The transmission was the bullet proof 727.

I was religious about killing overdrive. Course first time I was towing, I set the cruise at 75 & rolled on. 3500 rpm. When I realized I could watch the fuel gauge going down I backed off the throttle and settled in around 3000 and I could live with that.

I had a 2001 Ram 1500 Off-Road edition, 5.9. Absolutely loved that truck. 175k miles on it. Took 3 transmissions to get there. Would’ve lasted longer except for the squirrels.
When Mercedes bought Chrysler they went through their trucks and re-engineered them front to back. The change was INCREDIBLE. This was about 2010? One of the first things they fixed was the transmissions. I had a 2013 with the 6 speed auto and never a minutes trouble with it. I now have a 2019 with the 8 speed auto and WOW!!! The same basic Ram 1500 went from 13 MPG to 22 MPG on the highway and about 20 MPG overall. The also strengthened the frames and fixed the front end problems. Then when Fiat bought them a few years ago they put the cherry on top with their Italian leather interiors. Nobody can do leather like the Italians. Man these trucks are a joy to drive. I'm a traveling salesman and put about 50k a year on one. I sell Ram Commercial Trucks to the Dealers in the South from a Ram Truck Bailment Pool in Atlanta. We also build and install the bodies that go on the chassis, like service bodies, gooseneck bodies, dump bodies, flat beds, crane bodies, etc. Companies are buying these trucks faster than we can get them built! Literally. I haven't had an unsold truck actually on the ground for over 4 months and I usually keep about 200 in inventory. I'm taking orders for trucks I don't even have VIN numbers for yet!! This economy is incredible. I shake my head every time I hear the media trying to convince us that we're in the middle of a recession. LOL!! I certainly hope so!!! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
