Trying to do as much as I can myself. Yesterday the AC Belt broke I had thought it was a bit loose, but wasn't sure how tight it should be. Looking at the belt, it did not have any visible cracks or obvious wear. How do I install a new one? How tight should it be? I'm new to all this. Just bought it a few weeks ago, and right now just chainging fluids and filters. The oil filter and drain plug were both a real pain to remove! Someone put way too much torque on that filter.

If the belt looks good with no visible wear, why did it come off? Maybe it's not a new belt you need. Take a look at the idle tension pully (idler) and make sure it's not locked up. Also look at the A/C compressor to make sure it still turns. Maybe the compressor clutch is locked up? I doubt you have just a belt issue.

Good luck!! Let us know what you find.

On my coach the AC belt is seperate from the serpentine belt. The clutch isn't locked up. I had noticed a few minutes before it broke that it appeared to be kinda loose...I had just started the engine, after changing the oil. In just a few minutes it broke. Will they break if they are too loose? I've got a PM scheduled in another week, so I'll probably just leave it off and let them install it...since they would just have to remove it anyway...in order to install a new serpentine belt. Told them I want to play it safe and replace the serpentine. Will keep what is currently on as a spare.

Just covering all the bases! A V-belt may break and still look good. But in my past experience a serpentine belt will usually show cracks from age or heat and missing sections of the "ribs" before it breaks. They seem to last a lot longer. That's why the automotive industry went that direction and away from the V-belt. That and the load capacity of the serpentine belts is much higher and can run more accessories.
