Campground Pet Peeves

1. Any vehicle with the lock-up horn chirp on. Really? Read the manual and turn it off.

2. Exterior “security” lights on all night.

3. Finding Teflon thread tape on a hose bib thread. Gaskets...the seal is made by a gasket. No tape necessary.

Listening to the neighbor fire up the diesel and let it idle for 45 minutes while preparing to break camp. Hard on his equipment and hard on neighboring folks.

• The one visitor who thinks the 'Dogs must be on a lease at all times" rule means everyone except his.
• The all-night partier

1. people who pull in and back into a spot next to yours at 2am...while there is a fight going on between the driver and the person helping to guide them into the spot. Then the arbitrary set up and slamming of cargo bay doors along with a few F bombs at top decibels (mind you i am hearing impaired) thrown in for color.
2. My coach is nicer than your coach implied dialogue.....
3. liquor cans left everywhere the morning after....

I think i will stop there...

Oh boy, this is going to be a good thread

1. Leaving diesel engine running during CG check-in (when in range of campsites)
2. Not picking up dog pyupaye
3. Arriving prior to check-in time, grossly
4. Driving in the wrong direction around the campground (opposite of traffic flow)
5. That damn tree! The tree that's in the way of getting out of your site (forward driver's side) and that tree always in the way of satellite!

You pull into the resort after driving all day. Hungry and tired, you do a partial setup and head up to the poolside lounge for a burger and beer. You're chatting with the people around you as you watch your new neighbors swimming in the heated pool. "This place is NICE" you think to yourself. A couple hours later you're back in your coach, winding down and getting ready for some much needed rest. A short time later you're dreaming of a fun day tomorrow.

That's when the rumbling starts to break through the fog. It's a long, slow rumble that starts in the distance and grows in intensity. Then the coach starts to vibrate and you open your eyes to realize you're parked a hundred feet from a train track and this monster is going to make several more trips past your coach during the night. Each trip timed perfectly so as to let you get back to sleep before it starts the whole process over again.

It's going to be a long night, but each pass of the train solidifies your pledge to never come back here again.

Being full-time, my biggest complaint would be the difference between arrival/leave and first night/ last night on reservations. In 3 years travel, I can't count how many times there has been a screw up on reservations and we were expected to leave because our site was booked for that last night! Of course the campground maintains the misunderstanding is entirely our fault, but being hustled out of a campground thinking you have another day puts us at Wally World or Cracker Barrel. Just an aggravation, but something that you folks may want to be aware of. Happy Camping!

When we make campground reservations over the phone, we use the terms "arriving on" and "departing on;" e.g. "arriving on February 7" and "departing on February 10." That should clearly delineate that we will be staying at the campground on the nights of 2/7, 2/8 and 2/9. We will be leaving the campground on 2/10 by the normal check-out time (usually around 11:00 am).

Whenever possible, we try to make reservations electronically (so that we have a record of what we asked for) and request an e-mail confirmation.

Confirmation emails are great. I should check them closer. So, really it is my fault, not the stoned staff at the CG that screws up the reservation in the first place. Maybe if they didn't Bogart that...
