Diesel Prices Are Going Up Really Fast

We finally rough sketched our 2022 travel plans. We will be heading out of Florida in a couple of weeks.

Yesterday we had to drive the F350 down to Ft. Myers (170 miles round trip). I noticed that diesel prices were about .15 higher down there so as we drove back I kept watching stations along the way to see where I could get it a little cheaper. Corner station by a friends house was cheaper than anyplace else so we decided on the way back out of her subdivision we would fill there. Thirty minutes later we returned to the station and they had raised it .27 per gallon! We drove on without filling.

The next town closer to our resort had a Shell that was the cheapest at $5.15 per gallon. I filled up ($150 plus). When I went inside for a receipt the clerk said my timing was good because he just got a paper telling him to jack the diesel price .27 per gallon. As I walked out the door he was using a remote and sure enough before I drove off the station's fuel price sign was changed to $5.42 per gallon!

Silly me......when I planned our beginning travels I figured diesel at between $5.50 and $6.00 per gallon. Now I suspect by June we will see diesel at $6.00 to $7.00 per gallon. Plus currently my OpenRoads (TSD) app isn't showing hardly any good discounts anywhere in the country.

We are leaving Houston in a week to head back to Fort Myers, FL. Last week I filled up here in Texas and it was $4.79. So, guess I need to get ready for higher prices on the trip home.

And it will probably get worse. I have two major concerns this year. One is the price of fuel and the other is the possibility we won't be able to find fuel to return home. If you lived through the 70's you will remember the price of gas spiking and mass shortages nationwide. I don't know who was running the country then but this seems like the direction we are headed.

Life isn't going to wait and we don't know when this will end. Could it be the new normal? Who knows, it all depends on future events like past events. It sure makes you think twice about leisure activities but you have to keep living. AvGas for my plane has risen horrendously, in some places it's 8-10/gal now. Yesterday I filled up at 6.88/gal. It used to be below 5. I filled my Chevy Colorado up, a measly 18 gals for around $78. While most of us here can endure this, many are paralyzed from it and cannot. Imagine those on social security such as my mother trying to pay bills, buy groceries, etc. I'm not the one that needs to worry, others do and that's what I worry about.

Ah...then add in living in California and the impact is even greater. What's curious however, is that the current administration(s) don't seem to care. Almost like it's part of a plan. Glad I don't boat anymore as diesel at the marina is outrageous (and boat mileage is about 2 gal per mile ) So until there's a change in thinking (a change in leadership) our trips are going to be "close-to-home". You are correct Neal, the ones hurting the most are "not represented" in government. What we DO know, is that this WILL end...because this world is not our home .

Well one thing about living in Ca is that fuel gets cheaper the farther away you get. I just paid $6.70 in Napa - put $300 on the counter and got a whole 44 gallons. Just enough to get me deep enough to Nevada to fill up at about $1.50/gal less.

Well. If it’s any consolation it’s up here in Canada as well. We also have family and friends in various parts of Europe and it’s up there as well. Short of dropping out of the worldwide marketplace I don’t think there is much any one country can do about it.

We have a 6 province 11000 kilometres 8 to 10 week round tour planned starting 3 weeks from today. So glad we switched to an electric vehicle as a tow vehicle this year. Still hard to watch the affects on family and friends though. Everything is going up.

Stay safe on the road folks. You only go around once. May as well enjoy it.

Glad I live in the Southeast. Overall the cost of living is good down here. Good enough that people are pouring out of the Northeast (especially NY) and moving to the Southeast at an alarming rate! This is causing the cost of living to rise. When all the house buyers are showing up with $700K to $900K cash from selling their overpriced homes up North.................it causes the $300K to $500K houses around here to go up in price very quickly!

I currently have 135 gals of the precious Diesel in the RV from last year (yes it's been treated) - that's a lot of money sitting there. My Sis and BIL full timers are telling us to come up and hang out with them about 20 miles north of home - I told them I'd drive the jeep to visit. I'm retired, on SSA and I can pull from my 401k but seeing how much it'll cost to just get out of FL is shocking. I can get from Sarasota to Diamond Caverns in Kentucky on 1/2 tank (75 gals). Used to be around $250 to fill back to full. Now it'll be a little over $425. Ouch. Guess I'll stay closer to home.

What kind of mileage you get, I get 6-8. My Monaco is at Gerzeny's in Nokomis and I need to bring it home to Marion IL when it's done.
I go 75 to 10 and then up 231 to 65 to Nashville to avoid Atlanta and Chattanooga. so it's a little farther than straight 75. Around 1000 miles.

I just ran it up and at 6 mpg, the worst I'll get, I figured 165 gallons of diesel. $1000 if it's $6 a gallon.

There are two sides, to some it's leisure use, to others it's their home. I hope it never comes to who is allowed to get diesel. It could, we are a very spoiled country that has never really had to deal with things like that.

We traveled 2700 miles from south Florida to Montana over the last 2 weeks. Our average fuel cost was 5.02 but will say that we saw fuel go up about .25 per gallon the last week.
