That is not how a softstart works, that plug-in device would effect all the power in your RV.
I have installed softstarts on 200 HP motors to small half HP motors. They HAVE to be connected to the specific device (motor) and controlled to operate during start up (and sometimes shutdown)...
1000% YES. I will never have Dometic roof top A/C's without the easy/softstart. It seems the evidence shows those with them are far outlasting those without. Don't get the cheap knock-offs.

Now if only I could find the...
Very,vary sceptical!!!
Why???
15k unit runs, not starts on 1500 watts. Or roughly 100 watts for 1k BTU.
So you can softstart one ac on 3000w generator, but the second will exceed the capacity of the generator.
But there's more! The generator has a power dip before the engine catches up...
What we are looking at!
A single phase(technically two phase) compressor motor has a run capacitor. In the old days a softstart device was an increased capacity capacitor (typically under 10bucks.)
In a dedicated system there may have been a relay and a start capacitor.
No matter, when the...
Finished up everything and turned my system on to test yesterday. All is well. Next week I will install two softstart units. Going to wait and see if I even need solar.
Hey gang,
We just installed a new Inverter HVAC at home, which doesn't need the EZ Start that I had just installed a few months ago. Seeing this thread, and realizing it can be used on an RV, I'm listing it here. I didn't think it would fit under the cover on our Roof A/C units, which are...
Dometic only makes one type of SoftStart for the Penguin II, called the SmartStart. I have never seen this in any model year of any newmar. It does benefit from a direct plug n play installation. Would be very easy to see if your unit has this, as it will be a separate installation next to the...
I can't make sense of it. I manage to run two A/C's off a single leg of 30A divided to both A/C's. I do have the MicroAir Softstart on both units. When running they pull less than 14A. So...if you are in a 50A shore power connection, and the panel is balanced...you should easily run four...
I had Firestone Ride-Rite air bags on the back of the old Chevy P30 MH chassis, rear air bags on the 2008 Canyon baby truck, and just got half done completing Ram-Bro's air bag install on Thursday. Curb side bag installs Friday morning (so much rain in FL this week).
Spring compression under...
Running draw for a new 13.5 btu a/c is 12-13 amps in a ‘spec world’.
However you will need a “softstart“ device as most motors pull significantly more at start up without some type of modification.
...I guess the microwave is the only other major draw. Fridge and hot water heater propane capable.
So I'm reading about start up amps and softstart devices. I've read some people using a 2000W generator and some saying it's not enough.
My choices would be governed by the weight, the ones...
More than likely when both banks are completely flat the onboard smart charger cannot see the batteries, it thinks there's nothing there and remains in standby.
You may need to put an external charger on the house batteries for awhile, but check the following first.
#1 - is your salesman...
...get an adapter (below) to run all the small stuff, but you wont be able to run an AC. You might be able to run an AC if you install a “softstart” kit (second pic) on it. I don't have any experience with these but others here seem to have had good results. I’d post another question such as...
Your AC might require less to start, might be smaller unit, or could have a softstart processor already in it, and might be newer then mine. Glad yours works, 3000 is your running watts most likely, not your surge watts.
