Thank you chuggs! You have given people something to think about!
I would like to add thoughts about solar controllers often under utilized.
The two terminals seldom used on solar controllers are the load terminals. I don't get this! When used in conjunction with a solid state relay...
Don't make Solar Prep an option, make it STANDARD in ALL Newmars. This sets Newmar above the others, make every coach "green" solar ready. Solar prep is nothing more than running the 6 AWG wires to the roof and ethernet to the inside. I'm sure the costs could be covered in the sale price...
I just purchased a used 2021 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 8 287BHS. However as I started to look for the solar prep package, which I thought was standard, was missing. The roof did not have the connectors and there isn't a label on the wall inside the master bed room. What am I missing? Am I able to...
Slow down your thinking faster than your talking!
What is 24v? 3x 100wattts at what voltage? Are you sure the controller won't work on 24 volts? And are you going to have an inverter? That will definitely need to be built for the proper voltage!
I am not a solar expert but I have learned a lot from others here mainly @Chuggs who guided me through my solar install which I mirrored his setup and then took it a few steps further. I wanted to share what I have learned to date as it may help others and I welcome others that also installed...
Purchased a (like new) used 2017 Venture Sonic Lite (SL167VMS) 20' tt last Saturday. The owners manual says it is "pre wired for solar" and "pre wired for a back up camera". I have found nothing on line to assist me with what I need to do to add solar to my pre wired trailer. Only unidentified...
...I'm around CA, NV, AZ, UT, areas. Willing to go to other nearby areas too. If any of you have recommendations for a business that will install solar atop a van roof, please share. My van is brand new so I only feel comfortable hiring only a regular business to do the work. People told me...
Hi,
Hope someone can help, we have a 2019 Ace 27.2 we see that there is a solar panel on the roof, but unable to find what its connected to, we can't find a charge controller or anything else, any ideas?
Thanks Albarb
Thank you for the information. Like I said, did not really buy the RV for the solar panel just wanted to know what I can expect out of what I have. Obviously useless. Sure wish I had never bought a keystone rv.
...also new to the fifth wheel life. My girlfriend and I have recently looked into purchasing a Jayco Eagle 319MLOK. We are wanting to put enough solar on it to never need to plug it in, I understand I'll need batteries, but curious what a sufficient amount of Panels, etc, would be?
Thanks in...
The 300ah LA bank powers the ac which draws roughly 1.1kva at the batteries so around two hours before 10.9v on battery and the solar engine puts out 1kva so infinite runtime in sunlight. I live in a 45ft TT on the same plot so I haven't thoroughly tested it's performance yet. The 1990s...
...I'm brain-dead. All I remember is that I got rid of 8 wet cell batteries and the heavy tray they were in, and now with 4-230Amp LiFePo4 batteries, I have gained lots of storage space and lost a few hundred pounds of dead weight. I'm now thinking 1200 watts of solar would be nice. Damn money pit.
You likely won't hear this for some time, but there are A/C units that are solar friendly. I don't know if they are available for the RV market, but I wonder if the monetary investment to add enough solar and batteries. Would not be better spent on a mini split installation instead!!!
As RVs...
Wish it was like a solar charge controller which knows your SOC. Almost makes you think you could use a solar charge controller to manage the current flow as I believe it’s the same concept. Just more expensive. My MPPt allows max current flow setting aka charge rate and knows SOC.
...Although the numbers are up from what was considered fact, one meter square of earth surface receives 1000 watts from the sun. Because solar panels are typically only 20 percent efficient, that means a panel 1m square, Will only produce 200 watts of power, at best.
That said, what is the...
