    Resolved Soft start

I acquired a soft starter earlier this week. Yup I don't really need it, but I discovered a problem I thought I would share. No matter how I tried to search this forum I got (0) results on the topic. Seemed strange to me because I was involved in some of those topics. This post is a test...

Micro-Air EasyStart Flex AC Soft Starter With Bluetooth ASY-398-X1S-BL

Micro-Air EasyStart Flex AC Soft Starter With Bluetooth ASY-398-X1S-BL This is an awesome, top of the line, EasyStart that I recently installed on our HVAC to help with our generator use. It works PERFECT!!!! Made it possible to run our 5 ton unit using a generator! This is the bluetooth...

New A/C install - Soft Start Recommendations

...few instances where breaker has tripped when A/C + fridge & other powered items were run at he same time. So I am thinking that adding a soft start module would be a good idea. Can anyone recommend a make/model suitable? I see such a wide range of soft start units that say "they work for...

Tip Newmar Dometic A/C has softstart

There is a common misconception that the "hard start" is a soft start. All dometic have a factory installed "hard start" capacitor, but I have never seen a "soft start". I discussed this with Newmar back in 2019 during FPU, and was told they order them all that way with soft start so they would...

Interesting. Did they say what brand of soft start they install?

Question Why are Dometic roof top RV air conditioners lasting longer with Micro-Air Soft Starts?

So I was thinking this morning...why are Dometic air conditioners equipped with Micro-Air Soft Starts outlasting stock Dometic units for RV's? Then I remembered long ago when my residential A/C unit had a capacitor failure which seems to be the most common cause of failure in air conditioner...

Tip Newmar Dometic A/C has softstart

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is the purpose of soft start? For a generator?

Tip Newmar Dometic A/C has softstart

Concur and that's what got my attention too. I recall when using the soft start my GEN does not load up like it did without one and that was instant confirmation of the soft start working. I'm sure a more technical analysis with amps is proof, glad you could provide that as I'm away from my...

How To Install a soft start in a Dometic roof top air conditioner

Furion Units won’t work on all RVs, and they still benefit from having a soft start.

Tip Newmar Dometic A/C has softstart

I fell for the Newmar claim back in 2013. I argued on the other site with a few that where trying educate me on a hard start vs soft start. I accused micro air of being snake oil, until I called and talked with their support. Turns out it was the inventor of it (or his son) that I was talking...

Tip Newmar Dometic A/C has softstart

I think that’s the test you need to examine before returning them. Someone with a soft start to analyze the amp load at startup and compare to yours.

    Generator for travel trailer

Do you have a soft start on your AC, if not a 2k watt generator may or may not be good enough. Also with only 2k watts, you won't run it for long

Tip Newmar Dometic A/C has softstart

I have been in all 3 of mine and no e had soft starts. Bone stock just like the 2 replacements I have had to do. I added micro air soft starts to all of them.. Now the non dometic ac units may have built in soft starts but I bet they are not as good as micro air units

    Question Micro Air Easy Starts

I guess a question might be what is the expected life of a soft start? Mine are 5 yrs old. I haven't seen a post about one failing yet.

    Question Micro Air Easy Starts

I agree. I don’t have proof of extending the life of the units, but I had to replace an AC last year and it was the only on without a soft start….

Tip Newmar Dometic A/C has softstart

It greatly reduces the wattage required to start and run an a/c. Dometic claims their Freshjet 5 with smart start will operate on a 2kw generator. I installed a Softstart on my 15 k a/c on a 30 amp system. Before it would trip out if both the a/c and microwave were running together. Now it’s no...

Question Why are Dometic roof top RV air conditioners lasting longer with Micro-Air Soft Starts?

...issues. In residential ac's when a compressor is struggling they install a hard start capacitor which extends the life of the compressor. Soft starts in RV rooftop units likewise ease the start up burden on the compressor. The less stress the compressor is subject too overtime I suspect...

Question Why are Dometic roof top RV air conditioners lasting longer with Micro-Air Soft Starts?

...the amperes.High amperes means more heat and lower voltage means motors need to work harder to start and run causing again more heat.A soft start device is basically a big capacitor that charges to a higher then required voltage to start the unit then trickles the over power at a rate the air...
