    Question AC soft starts

I know a lot here have installed soft starts on their AC units to run both off a 30a feed. We are on 50a 98% of the time. My question: Would I gain any benefits from this such as longer equipment life due to less voltage surge etc.?

    Question Micro Air Easy Starts

I agree. I don’t have proof of extending the life of the units, but I had to replace an AC last year and it was the only on without a soft start….

    Air conditioner change

Thanks, exactly what i did. New AC unit board controlled 10-12 button thermostats and his is a 5. Wired up, AC & heat pump working fine. He ordered a soft start as well. The dealer sold him the AC unit and soft start and the soft start is the wrong one.

Question Why are Dometic roof top RV air conditioners lasting longer with Micro-Air Soft Starts?

...issues. In residential ac's when a compressor is struggling they install a hard start capacitor which extends the life of the compressor. Soft starts in RV rooftop units likewise ease the start up burden on the compressor. The less stress the compressor is subject too overtime I suspect...

How To Install a soft start in a Dometic roof top air conditioner

To chime in, I looked at these soft starts and as of today you can drop in a Furrion 18k chill cube which is basically a split unit in a box.The benefit over a soft start s the unit has a built in variable speed compressor and it works great for a top usage of about 1450 watts cranked up all the...

Tip Newmar Dometic A/C has softstart

It greatly reduces the wattage required to start and run an a/c. Dometic claims their Freshjet 5 with smart start will operate on a 2kw generator. I installed a Softstart on my 15 k a/c on a 30 amp system. Before it would trip out if both the a/c and microwave were running together. Now it’s no...

Question Why are Dometic roof top RV air conditioners lasting longer with Micro-Air Soft Starts?

...the amperes.High amperes means more heat and lower voltage means motors need to work harder to start and run causing again more heat.A soft start device is basically a big capacitor that charges to a higher then required voltage to start the unit then trickles the over power at a rate the air...

Question Need advice from someone with knowledge on either 30A or 15A power systems

Whats not shown is the starting amps for that air unit. One option may be to install a soft starter. You will need it for sure, unless you can find an air unit with it built in. MicroAir Softstart would be the solution, as long as it works on that air unit.

Tip Newmar Dometic A/C has softstart

Today the Newmar mobile service Mark came to discuss installing the Micro Air soft start. He informed me that Dometic installs a softstart in all Newmar A/C from the factory. This is a Special Order from Newmar factory. Apparently DP units have softstart. I now have three unopened MicroAir units...

How To Install a soft start in a Dometic roof top air conditioner

What I am saying is the 1000 investment will return itself in energy savings and efficiency, while the soft start will just help reduce the load when the unit starts up.Most people who are installing these soft starts are doing so to reduce the cost of a inverter or allow a 3000 watt inverter to...

Careful….Newmar is not compatible with Furion. I personally love the furion, but that won’t help the OP. And soft starter does resolve the issue as the in rush is the problem. I only need 11amps to run a single 15k air unit or 33 to run all 3 This is down from the 21 starting and 18 running...

UNBELIEVABLE - please tell us we're right

Yep, ordinarily you can't run a 15k a/c and a microwave simultaneously off a 30 amp pedestal. Even with soft starts on both a/c's it would be iffy unless there was load shedding involved.

Tip Newmar Dometic A/C has softstart

That’s what I thought. With a microair, it will never exceed 15 and often just 12. Starts at 2amps and slowly goes to 12-15. That’s the job of a true soft start. The extra capacitor is just the normal fan hard start. Nothing special. Been in all dometic for years.

    Question Micro Air Easy Starts

I can only tell you that before the soft start capacitor I couldn't turn on the microwave in my 30 amp coach while the a/c was running without an overload and trip at the pedestal. After, I can run the microwave or a toaster with the a/c running without issue.

When the water softener goes unused…

Wow Clodhopper, I commend you if you follow those instructions consistently. Good job for sure. Sadly, there are also so many other areas of sanitation that most people don’t pay attention to. I hate to even start with watching people hook/unhook their water & sewer systems (and their soft...

careful ! soft starts are just that, designed to control the inrush current needed to start the air conditioner. They will not reduce the required power needed by the air conditioners to actually run. That said, consider Furrions Chill Cube 18K, you can run 2 of these units on a 30 amp service...

    50 amp

...but not the AC, electric water htr, and microwave. You may even trip the pedestal if running the AC and a blow dryer. If the AC has a soft start the pedestal would more likely support a 2 of the 3 combination above. If you have a gas option for the water htr. this would be a good time for it...
